BLOOMFIELD, NJ - First Ward Bloomfield Councilman, Elias Chalet was in Essex County Superior Court in Newark today for his alleged bribery case.
Hon. Martin G. Cronin was presiding as the management conference was discussed by Chalet's attorney, Peter Till of Springfield and State prosecutors.
According to Till, medical records were presented due to Chalet's published reports of open heart surgery in April of 2016.
The state also received "the significant medical documents."
"We want the judge to know and be fully aware of the precarious medical conditions, " Till said.
No plea or trial date has been set according to Till.
The next date is February 24 at 9 a.m. for conference.
Chalet was indicted by a grand jury on January 29, 2016 for allegedly soliciting a $15,000 bribe.
He was accused of promising a business owner that he would use his place on the council to ensure that Bloomfield would continue its planned purchase of the commercial property.
Chalet currently maintains his council seat.
