WOODLAND PARK, NJ - Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes has announced that Timothy Carpenter, 49, of West Milford, is believed to be the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound resulting in his death.

Carpenter was found on Dec. 12, at approximately 6 p.m. inside his private motor vehicle in a wooded area of Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park.

At the time of his death, Carpenter was employed as a corrections officer with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, holding the rank of lieutenant.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the NJ State Police and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
