MAPLEWOOD, NJ - At about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, a vehicle was reported to have overturned on Prospect Street near the intersection with North Crescent, colliding with a parked car, and with the driver trapped inside the vehicle.
Howard Schwartz, a resident who was inside his home on Prospect Street at the time of the accident, told TAPinto SOMA he heard a loud crash and when he went outside there was "an automobile overturned with a woman trapped inside." Schwartz said that the driver was conscious and appeared to be injured.
The Maplewood Police Department, the Maplewood Fire Department, and EMS from St. Barnabas Hospital responded to the scene of the accident.
Using stabilization equipment and hydraulic tools, Maplewood firefighters were able to extract the woman by removing all of the glass and the roof of the vehicle, according to a press release from the Maplewood Fire Department.
The driver was extricated in about 20 minutes and sustained minor injuries, stated the Maplewood Fire Department.
After being checked at the scene, the driver of the vehicle, who was the only occupant, was transported by the Maplewood Fire Department to University Hospital in Newark, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, stated the press release from the Maplewood Fire Department.
