ELIZABETH, NJ - Elizabeth resident, Gail Campbell has released a highly anticipated debut single, "BLOODY WATERS."
This first single for Campbell, has a Rock-N-Roll and soulful vibe and is currently available on Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, Tidal and all streaming services.
The music, paired with Campbell’s soulful voice, displays a soulful sound that has critics comparing Campbell to the likes of such music greats as Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, and even Mahalia Jackson. With her retro style and deeply personal lyrics, it’s clear that Campbell is an artist with a unique sound all her own.
To listen to Gail Campbell’s debut EP, “BLOODY WATERS”, it’s easy to hear the musical diversity that she grew up with.
Having grown up in the city of Newark, NJ, Campbell often explains that her life has been difficult. However, she maintains that the music was always there to help her cope with every hardship.
With both parents sharing a love of music, Campbell stated that music of every genre was a constant in the household she grew up in. With her father, a DJ, her mother, a singer, and her uncle, a producer/singer/songwriter, she was constantly surrounded by music. Yet, it was her uncle that discovered her voice at the age of 12.
Produced by Stanley Ipkiss, Campbell is currently working on the EP “BLOODY WATERS,” to include additional music.
Though Campbell is known for powerful, soulful voice, her first love has always been Hip Hop. As a teen, she was a part of a duo called Royal Effect, the group had even gained the interest of the noted Hip Hop label, Def Jam. Eventually the group disbanded, however, it was through writing rhymes that Campbell honed the songwriting skills that would eventually become “BLOODY WATERS.”
As an adult, Campbell joined the church and connected a deep spirituality that led to ministry. She also found the power within her voice, and the courage and strength to pursue her dream with full force.
When asked about why she gave this project the name “BLOODY WATERS”, Campbell explains, “In my quest to become the woman I was created to be, I have often felt as if I was drowning."
She added, "I had to fight to stay alive. I got bruised. I got battered. I got cut to shreds, but I didn't drown. I kept going. I’m still swimming, but the water is really bloody."
Campbell is currently featured on the Hit Single “Fire” by Chops Tha Savior (STR4L), and is actively performing and promoting her music.
“With this debut EP, Gail Campbell is in her own lane.... and others will have to run to try to catch-up to where she is,” says Andre McCray Cestque-Trust aka FACE from local NJ station, 8 Squad Rebel Radio.
Campbell will be performing this summer at Newark’s annual 24HRS OF PEACE, and other venues around the country.
The single, “BLOODY WATERS” is currently available on Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, Tidal and all streaming services.
