GLEN RIDGE, NJ--It's been a busy winter for the Glen Ridge High track team. The Ridgers recently competed at the Group 1 relays, on Jan. 15, with some impressive results.

Glen Ridge will compete at the Essex County championship meet, on Feb. 19, at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex, in Staten Island, starting at 3 p.m.

Among the outstanding performances at the county relays for Glen Ridge included the shot put relay team of Ava Geraci and Izzy Polanskyj, who combined for a throw of 44' 1/2" to finish 22nd out of 28 teams.

Tyler Johnson and Chris Mitzak had an excellent day in the shot put relay, with a combined throw of 70'9" as Glen Ridge finished 15th in a field of 32.

A sprint medley relay team of Hayden Sweet, Connor Schubert, George Kilgen and Charlie Marsden finished in 4:22.61 as the Ridgers finished 26th in a field of 36 while the team of Camille Azeglio, Cooper Palm, Claire Leader and Erin Byerly ran 5:38.89 to take 31st overall.

Winter track generally consists of invitational meets, team relays and individual meets, for most of January. In February, the focus is on team and individual championships, as the season winds down with county, state sectionals and group championships. The winter campaign concludes with the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, on March 8, in Toms River.
