FAIRFIELD, NJ — Wawa, Inc. celebrated the grand opening of its newest store, located at 28 Little Falls Road in Fairfield on Friday, where both state and local officials, members of the Fairfield fire and police departments, members of the Special Olympics, members of the community food bank, township employees, community members, family and friends joined Wawa mascot Wally Goose for a commemorative ribbon cutting ceremony.
When Wawa Fairfield officially opened its doors, free T-shirts were given to the first 100 customers and the store announced that it would provide free coffee for the next four days.
Detective Paul Mazzeo from West Caldwell Police Department who performed the National Anthem during the ceremony, where Director of Store Operations Jason Read and Area Manager Dan Holland spoke to the crowd.
"Each time a new Wawa store opens, we are committed to not only fulfilling lives with fresh food and beverages, the latest store design and great associates, but also to our community and being a great neighbor," said Holland. "At Wawa, associates, customers and community members become neighbors, family and friends and that is what we call 'Goose pride.'"
Senator Joseph Pennacchio said that he was very impressed with Wawa's ability to create jobs and opportunities for the communities, and Fairfield Mayor James Gasparini said he was delighted to have a top first-class operation in his township.
Brian Cascarano from the Volunteer Fire Department also spoke highly of Wawa Fairfield, which awarded the department with a $1,000 donation for winning the organization's traditional "Hoagies for Heroes" event.
During the ceremony, the Fairfield Fire Department faced off against the Fairfield Police Department to see which team could build the most hoagies in three minutes.
As the runner-up team, the Fairfield Police Department selected the Special Olympics as the recipient of Wawa's $1,000 donation.
Wawa Fairfield General Manager Michael Glynn thanked his team, stating that the Wawa family operates under six core values every day: to value people, delight customers, embrace change, do things right, do the right thing and have a passion for winning.

Wawa is an all-day, every-day stop for freshly prepared foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services and surcharge-free ATMs. The store offers a large fresh foodservice selection, including Wawa brands such as custom prepared hoagies, freshly-brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, specialty beverages and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.
