GLEN RIDGE, NJ-- As he begins his first season as the head boys soccer coach at Glen Ridge High, Brian Ianni couldn't be happier with his team's effort and work ethic in the pre-season.

Glen Ridge, which won the program's first-ever NJSIAA Group 1 championship in 2019, will open this season, at home, against Bloomfield, starting at 4 p.m. On Oct. 7, the Ridgers travel to Belleville for a 7 p.m. game and on Oct. 10, it's off to Seton Hall Prep, for a 10 a.m. kickoff.

Ianni announced his team captains for 2020 will be Drew Hiner, Gabe Cabrera, Travis Burnett and Ty Rank.

"I'm really happy with all four captains," said Ianni. "There's a large senior class this year and those kids are excited to continue what was accomplished last year."

The Ridgers will most likely run a 4-3-3 this year, which is a little different than what was run last season, when it was more a 4-5-1.

"They're adjusting well to it," said Ianni.

The team roster consists of Jack Bronstein, Lucas Costa, Mert Erden, Ari Fazlija, Grant Ghaemi, Nicholas Garcia, Keith Juros, Willem Kleinberg, Aidan Shea, Lucas Umana, Segun Wallace, Carter Koenig, Max Renteria, Jack Robertson, Cooper Sharp, Shoh Nashimo, Alex Jordan, Noah Martinez-Casati and Nick Killigan.

There are 15 seniors on the roster.

"We have some really good kids," Ianni  said "I look at a guy like Lucas Costa, who is a natural leader on the field. His leadership is massive. The kids feed off of him, and his voice. Off the field, he is a quiet kid."
