MONTCLAIR, NJ - A Hillside Elementary School student was taken to the hospital after a section of metal lockers fell on them last week, school officials confirm.
Interim Superintendent Barbara Pinsak informed the public during a Montclair Board of Education meeting on September 18, that the attached, wall-mounted lockers had become detached during "class. transition time" on Friday, September 15.
The condition of the student has not been revealed by school officials, citing HIPAA laws, which protects the privacy of the student's health information.
She went further to explain that school officials began checking the security of every locker in the building, immediately following the collapse. Workers were then commissioned to replace anchors and fasteners in lockers throughout the building and install L-brackets for added support.
Pinsak further explained that other schools throughout the district were being inspected, as well. This includes recessed lockers.
