Wayne, N.J. - Former Bloomfield wrestlers came together today for a surprise retirement party honoring Sam Fusaro at the home of Assistant Coach Rami Ratel. Sam Fusaro served as the head wrestling coach for Bloomfield High School for the past 25 years. Fusaro's 1st year as head coach was the 1992-1993 season. Fusaro will still continue teaching with the school district.

Coach Fusaro had an impressive resume over the past 25 years including a career record of 329-185 and 2 ties. Under Fusaro's watch he won 7 league championships, 3 Essex County Championships, 6 District Championships,  4 Region Championships and team sectional championship once. Throughout the years he also coached 33 individual county champions, 71 individual district champions, 18 individual region champions and 9 state place winners. In 2007 he was named the New Jersey State Coach of the Year.

Steve Jenkins, the Bloomfield High School Athletic Director, said "He has been a cornerstone of the athletic program at BHS for years yet the impact he had on the young men he coached will be his true legacy and last much longer."

"Mr. Fusaro will carry a legacy that will live forever!!  Great coach, mentor and friend," stated former wrestler Dan Peña.
