MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair firefighters rushed to the area near 316 Bloomfield Avenue after neighbors reported hearing an explosion around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Upon investigation, firefighters discovered that a manhole cover had exploded and requested the assistance of PSE&G officials.
Beth Harper, a spokesperson for PSE&G, said, "The explosion was caused by underground cable failure." She added, "Crews are working to make immediate repairs and this did not impact service."
Montclair fire officials did not respond to requests for comment by the time of publication.
