MONTCLAIR, NJ - Please join Councilwoman Dr. Renee Baskerville, Montclair Township, HackensackUMC Mountainside and Hackensack Meridian Health during the month of May as they "Paint the Town Pink!"

Some Montclair businesses are supporting this effort by displaying pink in their stores. "Some communities really get involved in this effort. This is our first year in Montclair and we are pleased that some of the businesses have shown support," said Megan Voytus of HUMC Mountainside.

This is an annual community-wide effort to raise awareness of the benefits of annual mammograms, pap smears, and colonoscopies, as well as the importance of annual visits with a primary provider to ensure all age- and situation-appropriate screening tests are performed.

Early detection may help women combat various types of cancer such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, uterine cancer, lung cancer, bone cancer, skin cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, the list goes on. In addition, tests should be performed for high levels of cholesterol, high blood pressure, thyroid abnormalities as well as many other early detections which may be life saving.

“Paint the Town Pink is about women taking time for themselves,” said Councilwoman Baskerville. “Taking time to identify major stresses and remove them from one’s life – and LIVE!”

Councilwoman Baskerville encourages businesses, school organizations, places of worship and community organizations to join in the effort to Paint The Town Pink.

Letter to the Editor: Drug Testing for Politicians

May 28, 2017

To The Editor:

Before NJ politicians vote on legalizing weed for recreational use, I would like to see all of them drug tested. They should lead by example‬.

I know they are not voting today. Hence, they now have time to get tested. I wonder how many if any are using weed for recreational purposes. The public should know before they vote.
