MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Resident Bria Renee Johnson participated in a New York Fashion Week show with her fashion mentor, Virginia Cathey on February 17 at The New Yorker Hotel. The runway models wore Johnson's fashions on the runway during the event.
The bi-annual event, sponsored by Art & Beauty Magazine, unifies the pageant community and designers who create for all sizes and backgrounds.
Johnson is a senior at Montclair High School. She is also the President of Expressing My Style fashion club at MHS, and is planning on studying fashion design in college after high school.
Johnson said, "The experience was something very different that I've never felt before."
According to her mom Tonya, Johnson has been sewing since her early days at Watchung Elementary School.
She added, "I really got the feel of what New York Fashion Week is really like, and it definitely hyped me up for the future shows and experiences to come."
Johnson expressed gratitude to her mentor for the exposure to such an event. "I'm so blessed and thankful for the experience from my mentor, Virginia."
The two pair up again on August 19 for a second show in New York.
