BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The Junior Police Academy witnessed a landing of NJ State Police NorthSTAR earlier today at Memorial Park.. Around 10 a.m.the helicopter circled over the park before making a landing for the 3rd Annual Junior Police Academy. A group of 63 middle school-aged students have participated for the past two weeks in the ten-day program.
The purpose of the Bloomfield Junior Police Academy is to foster relationships that will bridge the gaps between law enforcement and youth, while also exposing them to future careers in serving their community. The goal of the program is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens and to empower them to act as a positive influence in our community.
Recruits were exposed to many different situations, physical training and formation drills. Included was a trip to the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center and the helicopter landing today executed by the Special Operations Branch of the New Jersey State Police.
"I am extremely happy with the partnerships we have developed with the NJ State Police, Essex County Sheriffs Office and our internal township departments." said Director of Public Safety Samuel DeMaio. These partnerships in the Junior Police Academy benefit our children in an amazing way. The relationships we are forging with the children of our community through the Junior Police Academy will last a lifetime with police and community relations".
