STOCKHOLM, NJ - It was a close match until the final horn when Sparta Jefferson United played Nutley on Monday night.  The game at Skylands Ice World ended in a 1-1 tie with both goals coming in the third period.

SJU out-shot Nutley more than 2:1 but they just could not manage to score.  Nutley’s goalie Timothy Spitalnik stopped 32 shots, while SJU goalie Logan Hanek only saw 15 shots.

The first goal came at the 9:24 mark in the third period from Nutley’s Mark Frade.

Sparta Jefferson United’s Brendan Erickson scored a few minutes later, assisted by Matt Redding.  Brendan Erickson already has eight goals and six assists only eight games into the season.

The SJU record now stands at 4-2-2.  They will travel to Mennen on Thursday to play Morristown.  The puck drops at 8:15 p.m. is an online newspaper serving the Township of Nutley. is accredited by the New Jersey Press Association, and is the only locally owned news organization serving the community.
