BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- Richard Rockwell has officially been elected Councilman-At-Large as the polls came to a close on Election Day 2018. Rockwell was originally appointed as a Council member at-Large in January after former Councilman Carlos Pomares was elected as a member of the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Rockwell ran unopposed in this election.
A Bloomfield resident for over 15 years, Councilman Rockwell holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education and is a founding member of the Bloomfield Morris Canal Greenway Committee and the author of Bloomfield Through Time, a historic account of the township. Rockwell previously served on the Bloomfield Zoning Board for 10 years. He is a member of the Planning Board, a Democratic committee district leader, member of the Halcyon Park neighborhood association and Vice President of the Historical Society of Bloomfield, among many other civic and community involvements. Councilman Rockwell also helps out at his partner Rodgee Cao’s successful local restaurant, Spice Thai Cuisine.
Mayor Michael Venezia was pleased that Rockwell will remain on the Township Council. "I'm very happy Rich was elected to finish out the term of Freeholder Pomares. Rich is a great addition to the Council and I look forward to the next year for the Mayor and Council."
I’m very proud to be re-elected and proud to continue to serve with my esteemed colleagues on the current Bloomfield Council under Mayor Venezia’s leadership. I’m proud to be part of the Line A Democratic Team who made a sweeping victory last night.
We reached out to Rockwell and he let us know he is ready to continue serving the Township to the best of his abilities. "I want to thank everyone who voted for me for their support and confidence in me. And special thanks to the dedicated Bloomfield Democratic County Committee volunteers who braved the rain to support me and the Line A candidates yesterday. I’m looking forward to serving the people of Bloomfield for another year."
