Want to get a jump on the 2017 growing season? Looking for ideas for your garden or a food business? Maybe something new to prepare for dinner? Join other community gardeners, urban farmers, food entrepreneurs and cooking enthusiasts at Greater Newark Conservancy’s Outdoor Learning Center, 32 Prince Street (between South Orange Avenue and Springfield Avenue) for the 6th Annual Beds & Breakfast Winter Seminar on Saturday, February 25 (snow date: March 4), from 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.
Over the past five years, more than 250 people have attended this popular seminar to learn about gardening and the environment and to network with other like-minded community members.
Beds & Breakfast begins with a nutritious, organic breakfast prepared on-site by Chef Jamie Busch. This year’s theme is Sustainable Food, with three informative program tracks: Cooking and Nutrition, Food-based Entrepreneurship, and Advanced Home Gardening.
Workshop topics include Extending the Growing Season, GMO’s and the Gut Connection, Knife Skills, Start-Up Food Business Basics, Chicken Coops & Care, Homemade Dried Fruit, Cooking with Essential Oils and more. You are welcome to select any workshop to attend, however, and do not need to follow a specific track.
Presenter Kris Ohleth from Garden State Kitchen said “food-based businesses face a wide variety of challenges in starting up. I am looking forward to sharing my insights and perspectives, especially those related to the benefits of shared use kitchen incubators, and learning from food-based businesses what resources they need so we will be ready to provide.”

Space is limited to the first 50 people who register on a first come, first served basis. Register and pay by Thursday, February 9th for an Early Bird discounted price of $40 (after February 9 the fee is $45 per person).
The registration fee includes breakfast, informative workshops, giveaways, networking, resource tables filled with information from seed companies and local organizations and door prizes. No walk-ins can be accommodated on the day of the event. Participants must be aged 16 and older (no child care is available).
