EAST ORANGE, NJ - Sierra House is reorganizing its Transitional Program. Unfortunatley, it is no longer compliant with HUD guidelines, specifically the Equal Access Rule, to continue the Transitional Program under the current model. As of January 31, 2017, the location at 11 South Maple Avenue in East Orange will close its doors and re-open in a new location in 2017 utilizing the Housing First Model. This model aligns with New Jersey's 10-year plan to end homelessness and will comply with HUD's Equal Access Rule. Under the new model, Sierra House will continue its plight to provide housing to homeless youth, families, and serve both males and females.
Staff members working with the Family Support Program and Neighborhood Improvement Program will continue supporting Sierra House in their current capacity. These staff members will relocate to our new office at 134 Evergreen Place in East Orange, New Jersey.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support and commitment to the Sierra House Transitional Program. Sierra House is committed to our existing work to end homelessness, and we are adapting to meet the challenges of a changing market. Most importantly, we will continue to keep you abreast on our new location. On behalf of Sierra House Board of Directors and Executive Director, we thank you for your patience while we reorganize to ensure Sierra House's future success.
