WESTFIELD, IN - An amazing and inspiring effort from the U16 Boys Bloomfield Cheetahs came up slightly short on a hot summer day in Indiana. Despite finishing in a three way tie with the super academies from GPS New Hampshire and the Chicago Alliance, the Bloomfield squad returns home –short of a US Club National Cup Final on goal differential tie-breakers. New Hampshire – whom Bloomfield defeated in group play will move on to the cup Final Monday.
“What more can you say about this team,” says Club President Barry Weiner. “Ten days ago they get the phone call from US Club Soccer that they will be one of the four wild card teams that will fill out the premier eight National Cup bracket. They draw unbelievably great teams and finish in a three way tie for first.”
Needing a victory Sunday, Bloomfield battled GPS Oregon, the second team in the bracket from the national academy Global Premier Soccer (GPS) to a 0 – 0 draw. Numerous opportunities came Bloomfield’s way but the boys from Oregon were able to hold on to their end of the shutout.
“This is really a testament to their coaching from Coach John Ricca,” adds Weiner, “that these boys can play three consecutive games in 90+ degree weather against this level of competition, and only come up one goal short of heading to the final.”
This was the fourth time in 5 years Bloomfield Soccer put a team into the nationals.
