The 33% Approval Rating of this Administration Illustrates One Thing: The Electoral College Failed

Jeff Sessions-  “Why would be bring somebody into the country who is illiterate in their own language?”  -To Tucker Carlson on FOX.

The most frustrating thing about the television is the one sided conversations that take place.  When the Attorney General, Jeffrey B. Sessions goes on television, and makes statements that are laced with vitriol to the state sponsored Tucker Carlson network; the American people are being subjected to brainwashing.  There isn’t any single push back or challenge to Sessions “logic” or stance on immigration by Carlson.  Furthermore, elected officials do not get a “safe haven” news network.  The Fourth Estate exists to serve the masses, not the elected, which exist to serve the will of the people.    Instead, the term “fake news” is tossed around like a football; whereas, the only falsehoods come from the White House.  Trump’s count at the publication of this piece stands at over 2,000 misleading statements.

When my great grandfather came to the United States as an immigrant, he was illiterate in his native language because of his lack of opportunity.  However, he was able to function and give my grandfather the opportunity to make a living in America.   Furthermore, my grandfather, who lived through the Great Depression went on to become one of the most successful builders in Long Island and Miami.  In fact, Mr. Sessions, the offspring of an illiterate Italian immigrant produced more for American families after World War II than your entire political party.  As a builder, my grandfather provided housing, jobs and opportunities for Americans. Conversely, as an Attorney General for Donald Trump, Sessions has provided nothing in the advancement of the American dream that my ancestry pursued and achieved.

To further this point, the Department of Justice intentionally released falsified information to paint terrorist statistics as a direct correlation of domestic terror attacks.  This wave of propaganda by the Department of Justice is linked to the racist political agenda of Trump’s white supremacy platform, encouraged and enabled by John Kelly, Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions.  The most maddening of all the rhetoric is that MAGA continues to be the lead, and gas lit, rally cry for the 33 percent that support this administration.  How in the hell did the Electoral College fail when it was put into place to avoid this disaster?  We have been doomed by the very institutions set up to protect us, because like automatons, we follow and trust the process. However, looking straight into the eyes of the devil right now, we have learned that the pillars of integrity, and our Constitution depend wholly on the character of those elected to uphold the law.  Again, Russia was able to exploit our prejudice and greed as a weapon that marched us straight down the plank of our near destruction.

This propaganda attack is driven by the bigotry of people like Jeff Sessions.  He is a hateful man fueled by prejudice and/or self-loathing.  We have assumed that the checks and balances of our system would ward off, and keep out the likes of Sessions, Bannon, Miller, and Kelly; however, this propaganda attack has turned the democracy over to 33% of the country that includes the billionaire 1% Robert Mercer manipulation.    As former Deputy Director of the CIA, Michael Morrell points out in his interview with Newsweek: It was “a failure of imagination that’s not dissimilar to the failure of imagination that we had for 9/11,” Morrell admits that we underestimated, and therefore suffered immensely at the hands of the Russian attack.  Two of the most disturbing things about this admission and observation are that the Russians had help from the inside and the role of Facebook/social media.

Are Americans willing to allow the overwhelming minority to sell this nation to Russia?  Are Americans willing to allow the thinking and social behaviors from the 1950s become accepted in 2018?  The University of Alabama just suspended a student for spewing racially infused hatred over social media. Harley Barber, a 19 year-old undergraduate, made a video that I’m sure Jeff Sessions would be proud to point out how this girl was exercising her right to free speech.

Will the American people sit idly by while the government is shut down and for no other reason than the White House and a large faction of the GOP are getting help from a foreign adversary?  This, my fellow citizens, is treason at the highest level and Tucker Carlson’s network of FOX is sponsoring the subterfuge.

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo

Retro Review: Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo (Citadel Press, 1970)

How does a reviewer do justice to a book called “the great American novel”? I first read Johnny Got His Gun during the Viet Nam war, when young people, nationwide, were protesting fighting in a war that was a senseless waste of life; a war in which the United States had no business participating.

The Truth About My Reading

The Truth About My Reading

I didn't get my Composition and Literature teacher at Montclair State College at all. A crusty old man with a dour disposition, Mr. Smith always seemed angry and rude. He appropriately intimidated freshmen, even me, an English major, who found this common core course beneath my dignity. Frankly, as a graduate of Highland Park High School, and a survivor of Mrs.
