BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield police announce the arrests of three men in connection with the robbery of a 17 year old male in the area of Broad and Liberty Streets on July 19.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., the three approached the victim whom that had just met for the first time earlier that evening. After a disagreement, one of the suspects went thought the victims pockets taking his cell phone and wallet. The victim stated that one of the suspects displayed a machete during the robbery. The suspects fled in a burgundy vehicle. There were no injuries reported.
Police used video recordings from the area to identify the suspects.
On July 21 police located the suspects William Tirado 18, Raquan Kirkland 19, and Tyler Walters 20 walking on Bloomfield Avenue. The machete displayed during the Robbery was found inside a backpack that was in Tirado’s possession.
William Tirado was charged with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose. Tyler Walters was charged with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. Raquan Kirkland was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by the Essex County Sheriff Department. All three suspects were detained at the Essex County Correctional Facility awaiting a bail hearing.
Public safety director Samuel DeMaio praised the hard work and diligence of the Youth Aid Division for bringing the suspects in this case to justice. “As far as the arrest crimes like this will not be tolerated in our township and we will work tirelessly to rid our community of the criminal element that diminish the quality of life of our residents.”
