SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - There will be a Transgender Flag Raising in South Orange on Thursday, August 3, at  7 p.m. at the flagpole in downtown South Orange (next to 76 South Orange Avenue), according to an update on Facebook from South Orange Village President Sheena Collum.

"We rally behind our transgender brothers and sisters who serve our country with courage, denounce this form and any form of discrimination, and raise the transgender flag next to our American flag with pride and love for one other," stated the Facebook update.

The community is invited to come at 6:30 p.m. to make posters and signs. Light refreshments will be served.

The flag raising is organized by partner organizations South Orange Village, SOMA LGBT, North Jersey Pride, Rad Kids, and the SOMA Interfaith Clergy Association.

Flag raising supporters include The Local Yarn Store, Congregation Beth El, Oheb Shalom Congregation, Pet Wants SOMA, Realtor Daria Knarvik, Homeowners Hub, Studio 509, Olivia Lewis-Chang, PhD.
