BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield police confirmed to TAPinto Bloomfield that three unoccupied running vehicles were stolen today from an auto dealership in the township.
The cars were left running on Bloomfield Avenue while the lot was being plowed.
Three vehicles were stolen and driven to Newark. An employee of Lynne's followed the vehicles to 7th and 13th Street where they stopped, exited the vehicles and pointed a gun at the employee. The Lynne's employee immediately returned to Bloomfield and reported the incident to the Bloomfield Police Department.
The Bloomfield Police Department has a detective assigned to the State Police Auto Theft Task Force. That detective apprehended two of the suspects. They were in the vehicle that was used to get to Lynne's to commit the theft. Those two suspects are to be processed by the Auto Theft Task Force in Newark.
At this time the suspects face charges related to the theft of three automobiles and aggravated assault with a gun.
Early wire service reports erroneously stated that the cars were "warming up." Wire service reports of the use of the weapons were inaccurate as well.
