The annual Nutley All-Star Soccer Camp will be held, at Owens Field, in Nutley, from Aug. 3-7.
Once again, the camp will be under the direction of Nutley High girls' soccer coach Mike DiPiano. The camp's hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Owens Field is located at 45 Park Avenue.
The camp is for boys and girls, grades 1-8. Campers from all neighborhoods are welcomed. The cost is $150.00 per camper and early registration is encouraged, but students can also register on the first day of camp.
"We're encouraging early registration, so that we can get the kids into groups before we start camp," said DiPiano. "We're obviously excited about another year of camp."
While DiPiano is thrilled to hold the camp, again, he is also cognizant of the need for additional safety. Throughout the years, the coach has always kept a keen eye on safety for his campers, but this year, obviously, is more pressing.
"Believe me, our staff is dedicated to proper distancing, good health and safety for everyone associated," said DiPiano. "We'll have temperature checks and all the proper guidelines in place. We want the kids to have fun, and we will, but first and foremost, we're following every guideline strictly.
"Also, with social distancing, kids will only participate kids their own ages in drills."
The camp will emphasize soccer speed and agility, skills and drills, social distancing drills/games and the necessary cool down period. There will be plenty of water breaks, as well.
If you have questions, DiPiano encourages phone calls, or e-mails. His phone number is 973-634-6082 and the e-mail address is email@example.com. DiPiano also asks that payments be delivered, or mailed, to his home, at 12 Gless Aveune, in Nutley.
"As we're getting closer to camp, it's much easier for one-on-one conversations," said DiPiano. "Please, call me, if you have questions. I'm here, anytime. You can mail the payment for camp, but can also save the cost of a stamp and just drop it off at my house."
DiPiano's success as a coach has been well documented. He won his 100th career game as Nutley's girls soccer coach, and also eclipsed the 500 victory plateau as a high school coach, in multiple sports, in 2019. DiPiano is also the head wrestling coach at NHS and had tremendous success coaching at St. Benedict's Prep, in Newark. The coach also attained a milestone in wrestling, winning his 300th career bout last winter.
