NEWARK, NJ - Progressive advocacy groups plan to protest tomorrow outside of a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Cory Booker's presidential bid that was organized by two controversial state powerbrokers.
Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. and George Norcross III plan to host a $2,800-per-person luncheon fundraiser at noon tomorrow at Nanina's in Belleville. But a coalition of progressive groups known as Take Back NJ have called for Booker to reject the fundraiser.
Democratic boss George Norcross is currently embroiled in an investigation into how companies linked to him and his brother got at least $1.1 billion in tax breaks. DiVincenzo faces controversy over a contract with ICE that allows for immigrants to be housed at a correctional facility in Newark.
“We admire your stance on ICE, your pledge not to take PAC money, and your advocacy for the underserved, and yet we feel that these convictions are undermined by your acceptance of a fundraiser hosted by George Norcross and Joe DiVincenzo,” Take Back NJ wrote in a letter to Booker.
