NEWARK, NJ - Montclair Councilwoman Renee Baskerville, MD, was awarded with the Outstanding Regional Elected Official Award, presented by the New Jersey Federation of Democratic Women.
On Saturday, October 13, a crowd gathered at Fernandes Steakhouse in Newark to celebrate the honorees.
Baskerville stated, "I was thrilled beyond measure after being nominated for this coveted award by Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver, my mentor and friend."
She added, "This award for service reflects our shared service that is the core of the fabric of our beings, and that of so many in attendance at the awards luncheon and gala."
Nearly sixty of Baskerville's friends, supporters and colleagues joined her in celebration as she received the award.
In acceptance, Baskerville stated, "I receive this coveted and prestigious award on behalf of the thousands of people whose selfless sacrifices, optimistic, determined and can-do spirits; devotion to making a positive difference in the lives of others whose zestful and generous spirits and robust consciences, tremendous ideas and actions enabled me to accomplish what I have. I receive this with honor on behalf of those who have stood with me and for me, who speak up for right and against wrong, stand up for justice even if they have to stand up alone or with few others."
Included among Baskerville's guests, were Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson, State Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake, Assemblyman Tom Giblin, Newark Council member Mildred Crump and many Montclair community leaders.
