BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield Township Council’s regular meeting on Monday was again held via video conference with council members participating from their homes and offices.
All consent resolutions were approved, including the award of a contract to Third River Urban Park and Flood Plain Creation Project for phase 2 at Lion Gate to Your Way Construction, Inc., a resolution for a temporary waiver of the sidewalk cafe license fees for 2020, and a resolution authorizing a temporary waiver of the Bloomfield Center Alliance annual audit for fiscal year 2019.
The waiving of sidewalk license fees will help encourage cafes to utilize outdoor seating to serve customers as stay-at-home orders are relaxed in the coming weeks.
The council approved all introductions of proposed ordinances on first reading, including an ordinance to amending the zoning map to place Block 224, Lots 7, 9, 10 and 11 in the M-1 zone.
Adoptions and amendments of proposed ordinances on second reading approvals included an ordinance to revise the zoning map to modify the boundary line of the community commercial zone, and an ordinance authorizing a certain easement agreement on a portion of the south junior high redevelopment project being undertaken by Urban Smart Growth, LLC.
A resolution was approved for the budget introduction for fiscal year 2020.
In new business, approved resolutions included appointing Christopher Kleinknecht to public safety telecommunicator, and a resolution authorizing the mayor or his designee to execute the Cares Act reimbursement agreement with the County of Essex.
No public comments were submitted for the council.
Participating in the meeting were Mayor Michael Venezia, First-Ward Councilwoman Jenny Mundell, Second-Ward Councilman Nicholas Joanow, Third-Ward Councilwoman Sarah Cruz, Councilwoman-at-Large Nina Davis, Councilman-at-Large Ted Gamble and Councilman-At-Large Richard Rockwell.
Also on the videoconference were Township Administrator Matthew Watkins, Township Attorney Michael Parlavecchio, Township Engineer Paul Lasek and Municipal Clerk Louise Palagano.
Monday’s proceedings were livestreamed on the township’s Facebook page and WBMA-TV.
The Township Council holds its next Conference Meeting on Monday, June 8, 7 pm, which will be conducted via video conference and livestreamed.
