Montclair NJ – The YMCA of Montclair and Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center announce a new 3-year partnership to address critical health and wellness needs in the community.

The YMCA of Montclair and Mountainside Medical Center share a purpose and passion for progressively building a healthier community. For 10 years they have partnered on community health initiatives including health fairs, health education and screening programs. Mountainside Medical Center has also been a sponsor of the Montclair Run and 1891 Gala Fundraiser.

The partnership will focus on chronic disease management and improving quality of life for people with diabetes, cancer, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. Cardiac and bariatric patients cleared by Mountainside Medical Center will be seen by a YMCA personal trainer to create custom programs which will include education on how to incorporate fitness into their daily regimen.

Mountainside Medical Center physicians and specialists will conduct healthy living screenings, lectures and “ask a doctor” tabling events at the YMCA of Montclair. Of special note, pediatric lectures and screenings will be made available at the Geyer Family Branch for parents. Topics will include developmental milestones, vaccinations, preschool readiness, and breastfeeding.

“Through this unique collaboration, we will be able to extend the continuum of care for our patients after they leave the hospital by connecting them with programs and services that will help them continue to improve their health.” said John A. Fromhold, CEO of Mountainside Medical Center.

In addition, the YMCA of Montclair will expand its mission of enhancing healthy living in our community by providing employees of Mountainside Medical Center an on-site wellness program featuring dance, yoga and kickboxing classes. Mountainside Medical Center employees will also have access to a special YMCA membership, enabling employees to utilize the Y’s facilities and programs.

“The YMCA of Montclair has been a leader in healthy living for 125 years. We thank John A. Fromhold for his leadership and support of our Y’s chronic disease prevention and healthy living programs, and mission work within our community,” said Buddy Evans, YMCA of Montclair President and CEO.
