BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- With testing becoming much more prevalent in the past week, the number of cases has continued to increase in not only New Jersey but in Bloomfield as well. In the latest official report Bloomfield saw an overnight increase of 12 new cases, making a total of 44. To date there are two deaths reported. In comparison, neighboring towns have increasing totals as well:
Newark- 162 cases
East Orange-68 cases
Belleville- 56 cases
Nutley- 48 cases
Glen Ridge-5 cases
TAPinto Bloomfield has also learned that three members of the Bloomfield Police Department have tested positive for COVID-19. There are at lease two more members awaiting results. We haven't been able to confirm the severity or if the officers are residents of Bloomfield as well. There are no other reports of any other Township employees testing positive for COVID-19.
Today, Governor Murphy announced that the number of positive cases has increased to 8825. The number of New Jersey deaths is now 108. There have also been 16,547 negative cases reported.
In each case the Bloomfield Health Department is performs a community spread assessment which will track all the contacts that anyone who tests positive may have made over the past week.
