5/14/2020-Derrick McKay age 51 of East Orange, NJ-Officers were dispatched to 296 Glenwood Avenue (Food Town) on report of a shoplifting incident that just occurred. The suspect described below, placed Febreze into a shopping cart and left the store without paying. An Officer located Mr. McKay in Watsessing Park along with the proceeds. McKay was arrested, transported to HQ, charged with shoplifting and released with a pending court date. The items were returned to Food Town. Suspect description: African American male wearing gray pants, pushing a shopping cart.
5/14/2020-Mario Chavis age 43 of Newark, NJ-Officers were dispatched to 8 Franklin Street (Stop & Shop) on report of a shoplifter in custody. The loss prevention officer observed Mr. Chavis conceal hygiene products in a plastic bag and attempted to leave the store without paying. Mr. Chavis had an outstanding warrant out of Belleville, NJ. He was given a new court date and released. All proceeds were returned to Stop and Shop.
5/13/2020-A Morton Street resident reports that during the overnight hours on 5/12/2020-5/13/2020 he observed that the fog light was ripped out of his vehicle and stolen. His vehicle is a 2018 Lexus LS500 and was parked in front of his residence when the incident occurred. The approximate value of the fog light and damage is valued at $1,000.00.
Theft from Auto:
5/11/2020- An officer took a telephone report of a theft from auto from a Sadler Road resident. The time frame of the incident was sometime between Saturday May 9, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. and Monday May 11, 2020 at 1:20 p.m. The resident noticed that her car door was ajar and upon entering the vehicle she discovered that 1 box of (100 count) of surgical gloves and approximately 300 disposable face masks were taken. The gloves and masks are valued at $320.00. This incident is under investigation.
5/11/2020-An officer took a telephone report of a theft from auto. The incident occurred at the intersection of Franklin Street near Berkeley Avenue between Saturday May 9, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. and Monday May 11, 2020 6:30 a.m. The driver’s side front vent window on his vehicle was broken and the doors were then unlocked. The suspect(s) removed a 16' foot Gorilla ladder valued at $150.00.
5/12/2020-An officer took a telephone report of a theft from automobile. The Sadler Road resident parked and locked his vehicle, a brown 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at approximately 1:30 p.m. On May 12, 2020 at approximately 9:00 a.m. he returned to his vehicle he noticed his green backpack containing emergency supplies was missing. The items taken are valued at $200.00. This incident is under investigation.
Motor Vehicle Theft:
5/12/2020-An officer responded to LaFrance Avenue on report of a stolen motor vehicle. The registered owner went outside to start the car, and then went inside to grab some items. When she came back outside, the car was gone. The vehicle is described as a black BMW 328i, NJ registration D88DEF. The incident occurred at approximately 6:03 am. The vehicle owner believes the suspect came down Beardsley Avenue from Arlington Avenue because her ring cameras on the other side of the house did not record anything. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen.
5/11/2020-A Hoover Avenue resident responded to the Police Desk to report a Burglary. The resident left his apartment at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday 05/10/2020 and returned at 7:00 p.m. on the same date.
On 05/11/2020 at 5:30 a.m. he noticed his Mac Book Air Pro valued at $1500.00 was missing from his apartment which was issued to him by his employer. He did not notice anything suspicious when he returned home on Sunday night and that there were no signs of forced entry into his apartment. Both the front and back doors were locked, and he is unsure how someone gained entry into his apartment.
The laptop was tracked at 7:00 a.m. which showed the last location was at 177 Passaic Avenue, Belleville, NJ (Nicolette Auto Body) at 4:30 a.m. The laptop then pinged at 11:03 a.m. at the same location. Detectives responded to Nicolette’s and located the laptop in a stolen vehicle that was towed to the yard. The laptop was returned to the owner. This incident is still under investigation.
