Shoplifting

2/4/2020- Cecil Mitchell Age 28 of Irvington, NJ- An officer responded to 8 Franklin Street (Stop & Shop) on report of a shoplifter in custody. The LP officer observed a male, later identified as Mr. Mitchell, place multiple Dove liquid soaps into a plastic bag and attempted to leave the store without paying. Upon police arrival Mitchell was handcuffed, transported to HQ, processed, charged with shoplifting, and transported to E.C.C.F. The soap is valued at $137.00 and was returned to Stop & Shop.

2/4/2020- An officer responded to 331 Broad Street (CVS Pharmacy) on report of a shoplifting that occurred. The manager observed two males place electronic razors in a bag and left the store without paying. A search of the area was conducted for the suspects with negative results. The razors are valued at $300.00. This incident is under investigation. Suspect description: Suspect 1- African American male wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, red sweater, and a blue shirt. Suspect 2- Hispanic male wearing a black jacket and green hat.

2/5/2020- Martin French Age 53 of Newark, NJ- An officer was dispatched to 244 Bloomfield Avenue (Aldi Food Store) on report of a shoplifting. The store manager observed an African American male, later identified as Mr. French fill two bags with Tide detergent and left the store without paying. He left on foot and entered a NJ Transit bus. The bus was located and stopped and Mr. French had the items in his possession. He was arrested, transported to HQ, processed, charged with shoplifting, released and has a pending court date. The Tide detergent, valued at $60.00 was returned to Aldi Food Store.

2/7/2020- Jose Heriberto Perez-Delgado Age 30 of Bloomfield, NJ and Jesus Rodriguez- Ocasio Age 30 of Newark, NJ- An officer was dispatched to 72 Bloomfield Avenue (Walgreens) on report of a shoplifting. Two Hispanic males, later identified as Perez-Delgado and Rodriguez-Ocasio were observed taking items from the store and leave without paying. Both suspects left on foot towards Bloomfield Avenue. A search of the area was checked and Perez-Delgado and Rodriguez-Ocasio were stopped, approached, and checked. Both suspects had items from the store in their possession. The items were lotion, skin cleaner, a flat iron, and shaving gel. All items are valued at $90.74 were returned to the store. Mr. Perez-Delgado and Mr. Rodriguez-Ocasio were handcuffed, transported to HQ, processed, charged with shoplifting, and released with a pending court date.

2/8/2020- An officer responded to 135 Bloomfield Avenue (Staples) on report of a shoplifting. The LP officer observed an African American male enter the store at 11:40 a.m. He concealed a pair of Earpods and left the store without paying. The Earpods are valued at $159.00. This incident is under investigation. Suspect description: An African American male with crutches, wearing a blue jacket, and blue pants. 

2/9/2020- Rhett Ellis Age 55 of Union, NJ- Officers were dispatched to 8 Franklin Street (Stop & Shop) on report of a shoplifter in custody. Mr. Ellis was observed on camera attempting to leave with a 12 pack of Red Bull valued at $22.00. He was approached and detained until police arrival. Mr. Ellis was arrested, transported to HQ, processed, charged with shoplifting, and transferred to E.C.C.F. He has a pending court date.

Theft from Auto

2/5/2020- A Montclair resident responded to HQ to report a Theft from auto. He parked his vehicle at 4:00 p.m. on 2/2/2020 in the rear lot of 1057 Broad Street. When he entered his vehicle in the morning on 2/3/2020, he observed his Macbook Pro 13 and the charger were missing from his vehicle. The computer and charger are valued at $1300.00. He was able to track his computer to a Newark address. This incident is under investigation.

Package Theft 

2/9/2020- A North 16th Street resident responded to HQ to report a Package Theft. He observed an African American male on his Ring camera at 3:44 p.m. take a package off of his front steps. The package contained Callahan brake pads valued at $50.00. The package was later found in Belleville and returned to the resident that evening. This incident is under investigation. Suspect description: an African American male wearing a red hat, dark jacket, dark pants, and tan boots pushing a shopping cart.

Motor Vehicle Theft 

2/3/2020- An officer responded to Broad Street on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The vehicle owner parked his vehicle in parking spot #27 at 249 Broad Street at 4:00 p.m. on 2/3/2020. The vehicle was locked and has black duct tape on the front and back bumper on the driver side. The vehicle is described as a 1998 green 2 door Honda, NJ registration L95MAH. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. 

2/4/2020- An officer was dispatched to Orange Street on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. The vehicle owner observed on surveillance system at 1:23 p.m. a blue vehicle enter the parking lot. A suspect exited the vehicle and entered his vehicle that was parked in the lot. The vehicle is described as a 2018 white Mercedes Benz 4dr, NJ registration P71JNS. The vehicle was entered NCIC Stolen. This incident is under investigation. Suspect description: The suspect was seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey jeans, or sweatpants, and grey sneakers. 

2/8/2020- An officer was dispatched to 126 Bloomfield Avenue on report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. A thin African American male exited a Buick and entered a Mercedes Benz that was left running and unlocked in front of the store. The vehicle then fled on Bloomfield Avenue then onto Ampere Parkway. A search of the area was conducted with negative results. The vehicle is described as a 2014 black Mercedes Benz 4dr, NJ registration G56JRL. The vehicle was entered NCIC Stolen. Suspect description: African American male approximately 5’11 wearing a multi colored sweatshirt, athletic pants, and sneakers. 

Burglary

2/8/2020- Officers responded to 29 Dodd Street (Original Tropical Food Store) on report of a Burglary. Officers observed a shattered window along with a lottery machine open and a cash register draw damaged. Store video showed a male suspect wearing a light colored hood, dark colored gloves and dark sneakers forcing entry to the establishment. Items taken from the store are cash and lottery tickets valued at $300.00. This incident is under investigation. 

Robbery

2/7/20- Officers responded to Olive Street on report of a Robbery. The victim was walking home from the bus stop located on Bloomfield Ave and Orange Street and observed a dark color Toyota following him. A male jumped out from the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect then approached the victim, punched him about the body and face and took his IPhone 10 max, $5 bill, 2 sets of keys, and loose change. This incident is under investigation. Suspect description: Two African American males approximately 6 feet tall wearing all black clothing. Suspect 1- male wearing a black jacket over a black hooded sweatshirt, Suspect 2- male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask over his face.
