Bloomfield, NJ- On November 18, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m. a resident responded to the Bloomfield Police desk to report that his vehicle was stolen. The resident last saw his vehicle at 10:30 p.m. on 11/17/2019 parked on his property.
On 11/18/2019 at 7:30 a.m. he observed his vehicle was not where he left it the night before. A report was taken by an officer and the vehicle, a 2006 4 door silver Toyota Camry, was entered stolen in NCIC (National Crime Information Center).
On November 19, 2019 the Bloomfield Detective Bureau received an alert from Vigilant Solutions ALPR (Automated License Plate Reader) that the stolen vehicle was parked in the area of 442 S. 19th Street in Newark, NJ.
Detectives Peri & Falco responded to the area to search for the vehicle. Upon their arrival in Newark, NJ, they observed the vehicle double parked, running, with a single occupant in the driver’s seat. The Detectives identified themselves and the occupant, later identified as Saleel Siplin age 18 of Newark, NJ was taken into custody.
Siplin admitted to riding his BMX bicycle and taking the vehicle from the location in Bloomfield. He was transported to Bloomfield Police Department and charged with 1 count of Theft of Movable Property and released with a pending court date.
