Bloomfield, NJ- The Bloomfield Police Department Detective Bureau investigated a theft that

occurred on 8/16/2019 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 50 Byrd Ave, Bloomfield, NJ. The

suspect is observed pulling into the church parking lot in a black Chevrolet Tahoe at

approximately 6:33 p.m. He then enters the church and rips the top of a donation box out of the

wall and pried open a candle donation box. The suspect stole approximately $75 in cash from

both of the boxes.

 

Detectives investigated this theft and gathered evidence from video surveillance footage

and vehicle information. They identified the male suspect as Carlos Ruiz 47 years of age from

Pennsauken, NJ. An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

 

On 8/21/2019 members of the Bloomfield PD Fugitive Apprehension Team responded to

Ruiz’s address in Pennsauken, NJ and he was taken into custody. He was transported to

Bloomfield PD HQ and charged with Theft and Criminal Mischief. He was then transported to

the Essex County Correctional Facility and has a pending court date.
