BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- Since 2010, the Bloomfield High School Football Alumni Camp has been a huge success due to the generous donations they have received from their sponsors. These donations have allowed well over 1,500 Bloomfield Youth to attend the football camp for free.
10 years ago, while laid off from his teaching position and home with his three young daughters, former BHS gridiron standout Anthony Lambo came up with an idea. Lambo, a 1996 graduate of Bloomfield High School, put together the first camp as an alumni project with the sole purpose of bringing different generations of the storied BHS football program together as well as giving kids from the community a chance to participate. Lambo continued his post high school career at Virginia Tech where his Hokies lost the National Championship game to Florida State in 2000. After college he signed with the Baltimore Ravens but lingering injuries forced him to call it quits before he could make it a career. Lambo is always sure to invite as many former Hokies as possible to share their experiences with the campers.
"The Bloomfield High School Football Alumni Camp was started to bring an opportunity for all youth in town to have a day where they feel safe and free to experience football in a family atmosphere. BHS Football Alumni from all generations come together to volunteer and give back to the sport and community that molded us into the men we are today", said Lambo. "The camp gives our football alumni an opportunity to pass on all of our life experiences, as well as our unmatched football knowledge and experience to youth in town. The camp has grown to include some of my Virginia Tech Football Alumni brothers whom have come to Jersey from various states to support our camp and to give back to the sport that has given us so much."
This year's camp will be held on Saturday, June 27th 2020 at Foley Field. Each camp participant receives; an Alumni Camp T-shirt, offensive and defensive position specific group instruction on football techniques and drills, free lunch, Certificate of Participation, and the ability to earn trophies for "Camper of the Day." The staff consists of BHS Football Alumni that continued their athletic careers in college, the NFL and boast a combined 300 years of football playing and coaching experience.
