BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The second week of the popular Bloomfield Lady Bengals Softball Summer Camp wrapped up last week as kids ages 7 to 15 enjoyed a fun-filled 10 days on the diamond at Bloomfield Middle School.

The sixth annual camp was conducted under the leadership of former Bloomfield star pitcher and outfielder Jennifer Santa.

Santa, a 1998 BHS graduate, was a member of the Lady Bengals squad from 1996-98 and led the team to the Section 2, Group 4 State Championship during her senior year.  She was named first-team All-Essex County and first-team NNJIL All-Conference, and an NNJIL Conference all-star as a pitcher.

After playing collegiate ball at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, Santa became an assistant varsity coach at BHS, and how hosts camps and private lessons.

Provided to the youngsters was detailed softball instruction in all phases of the game.  There were offensive stations featuring situational hitting, bunting and baserunning.  Defensive stations focusing on catching and pitching mechanics, and infielding and outfielding skills.

Campers also get a complete evaluation at weeks end, participated in daily games and challenges, and received a free T-shirt, awards and prizes.

Current and former Lady Bengals players also helped with the kids on the diamond and in the batting cage.
