BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield Bengals Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams had a strong showing last weekend during the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Outdoor Championships held Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 at Christopher Columbus Municipal Stadium in Clifton.

Senior Saif Younas captured two individual gold medals during the weekend competition, winning the 200-meter dash in 22.38.  Younas also beat his own school record in the 100-meter dash with a 10.81 in trials and 10.86 in the finals to win the sectional title.

Younas moves on to the Group 4 Championship in both events this Friday, May 31 beginning at 2:30 pm and this Saturday, June 1 beginning at 10:00 am at Franklin High School in Somerset.

The top six finishers in each event qualify for the State Championships.

Younas also joined fellow seniors Brandon Holt, Tochi Anyanwu and Andrew Terc as they set a new school record in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a 43.57, good for second place.  The quartet was edged out of first place by .02.

Holt long jumped 20-feet 2 ½-inches to place fourth and move on to the Group 4 Championships.

Sophomore Tashane Ormsby vaulted 8-feet to tie a school record. 

In discus, senior captain Makaih Ortiz placed fourth at 129-10, and fellow senior captain Warlys Lizardo placed fifth at 129-3, as both move on to the Group 4 Championship.

Junior Alexis Taylor set a new personal best in shot put at 34-feet 2 ½-inches, good for a sixth-place finish and a spot at the Group 4 Championship.
