BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Coming on the heels of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Championships in Clifton during Memorial Day Weekend, Bloomfield Bengals Boys and Girls Track & Field had another strong showing in the Group 4 State Championships on May 31 and June 1 at Franklin High School in Somerset.
Senior Saif Younas placed 11th in the boys 100-meter dash preliminaries at 11.24. Younas placed 16th in the 200-meter dash finals at 22.85.
Younas qualified for the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions in the 100-meter dash as a wild-card berth at The Meet of Champions at Northern Burlington Regional High School in Columbus.
In the sectionals during Memorial Day Weekend on the road to the group final, Younas captured two individual gold medals, winning the 200-meter dash in 22.38, and breaking his own school record in the 100-meter dash with 10.86 to win the sectional title.
In other Group 4 results in the boys 4 × 100-meter relay, the Bengals finished 16th in the finals at 43.88.
Senior Brandon Holt placed 20th in the boys long jump finals at 19 feet, 10 ½ inches.
In the boys discus finals, senior Warlys Lizardo took 16th at 132 feet, 5 inches, and senior Makaih Ortiz finished 17th at 130 feet, 10 inches.
For the girls, junior Alexis Taylor placed 21st in the shotput finals at 31 feet, 4 ½ inches.
At the sectionals, Taylor set a new personal best in shot put at 34-feet, 2 ½-inches, good for a sixth-place finish.
