BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Bordentown Township Police is mourning the loss of a family member, as K9 Boston unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday morning, the Department announced. 

In a Facebook post, the BTPD said that K9 Boston was humanely euthanized after becoming seriously ill. 

K9 Boston was with the Department since June 2013. He was a dual-purpose K9 and was trained in both narcotics detection and patrol. According to the BTPD, he was responsible for numerous drug seizures and criminal apprehensions throughout his career.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ptl. Guire, who was the human handler, partner and friend to K9 Boston, and to our entire K9 Unit following this sudden and unexpected death," the BTPD said. "Thank you for your service to Bordentown Township, K9 Boston. Rest In Peace."
