Basilone Parade and Events Coming This Weekend

RARITAN, NJ - The John Basilone parade is returning to Raritan with a weekend of events to honor the late Marine John Basilone.

First, the 27th annual John Basilone concert featuring the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will be held at the theatre at Raritan Valley Community College Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

The parade will head down Somerset Street beginning at 1 p.m. Sept. 18.

The 2016 grand marshall for the parade is John Sturges, a World War II veteran, and the 2016 guest speaker will be retired Lt. Gen. Richard Zilmer.

Basilone, of Raritan, was the only enlisted Marine to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross, and was the only one to return to action after winning the Medal of Honor and be killed in action.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.
