Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck by Car on Route 22

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bound Brook man died Thursday after he was struck while riding his bicycle across Route 22 Wednesday evening.

Manuel DeJesus Morales-Perez, 43, succumbed to his injuries after he was struck by a vehicle when he was attempting to cross Route 22 from the left shoulder to the right shoulder around 7:49 p.m. Wednesday near the Days Inn.

According to police, a 2006 Honda Pilot, operated by Elinor L. Brooks, 53, of North Brunswick, was traveling east on Route 22, when she struck Morales-Perez on his bicycle.

Morales-Perez was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick by New Jersey State Police Medevac Hospital, and he succumbed to his injuries March 12.

Brooks was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, and was released.

The crash is being investigated by the Bridgewater Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau. Witnesses are asked to contact Bridgewater Township Traffic Safety Bureau Officer Jason Albanese at (908) 722-4111, ext. 4158, or the Bridgewater T.I.P.S. line at 877-660-INFO.

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.
