RARITAN, NJ - Amid these surreal times of pandemic, many norms and ways of life have been challenged and forced to adapt.
As we all know, social distancing has become a way of survival. Stand 6 feet apart, masks and gloves in public, and, in the case of funeral homes, a mandated limit of 10 people in the building at a time, including staff members.
As a way to keep families connected, the Bongiovi Funeral Home, which has been serving the Bridgewater/Raritan community for generations, now offers a solution for those who wish to pay their respects safely from home.
With the assistance of Somerville, NJ’s Kennette Productions and Youtube, families are able to share a private link inviting viewers to tune in during the service. Most families start with a memorial slideshow of pictures to assist the viewers in remembrance of their loved one's life and adventures. They are followed by the chapel camera and audio feed capturing the service and eulogies, and, in some cases, patching in a livestream message from a family member who isn’t able to be there in person. While viewers at home can either tune in simultaneously or after it has been recorded and archived to Youtube, all are invited to sign the digital guestbook and or write some words for all to see and share using the chat box feature. To some people this solution is priceless and to others it may seem off-putting and that is ok. Every family has different approaches, parameters and needs and it is the timeless job of the funeral director and staff to aid and offer all that they can to best fulfill them.
