BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Class of 2017 held “Dreams for Kids” March 24, a community event that found NFL players challenging Bridgewater-Raritan All Stars in a basketball game.
The event was held to raise money for the class, and partnered with the organization founded by former NFL-great Lonnie Allgood to instill in youth the six pillars of character – respect, fairness, citizenship, responsibility, caring and trust.
Playing for the Bridgewater-Raritan All Stars were members of the Bridgewater and Raritan police and fire departments; Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School; Bridgewater-Raritan district faculty; Bridgewater-Raritan High School faculty; members of the BRHS Class of 2017; and the “Dreams” Team.
Professional football players included Kareem Huggins, of the NY Jets; J’vonne Parker, of the Denver Broncos; Barrett Brooks, of the Pittsburgh Steelers; Darian Barnes, of the NY Giants; Michael Campbell, of the NY Jets; Chad Plummer, of the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos; Aaron Beasley, of the NY Jets; Brandon Bing, of the NY Giants; and Tony Logan, of the New England Patriots.
Honored as Hometown Heroes were Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran Joe Yuzuik, who organizes the Veterans of America Day at the Somerset Patriots ballpark; Karen Hawkins, who currently serves as the BRHS Panther Athletic Club co-president; Kevin Johnson, who has been part of Pop Warner Football for over 20 years; and MG Hollingsworth, who has been inspirational with the Bridgewater lacrosse community.
Also honored were BRHS teams that won championships in spring and fall 2016, and winter 2017.
The event also featured performances by the marching band, color guard, Retro Fresh Dance Team and varsity cheerleaders.
