BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater Township Council approved an ordinance authorizing an acquisition of land on North Bridge Street as open space.
The purchase of the 10 acres at 587 and 589 North Bridge Street is being paid for from the Open Space Trust Fund.
Resident Chris Pizarro questioned what is being done about the residential homes already on those properties.
Township attorney William Savo said there is a single family home on one of the properties, and that will be demolished. The other property, he said, has an old barn, not a full house.
“I don’t know if there are any plans for that yet,” he said.
Council president Howard Norgalis said the township has not yet decided if the space will be used for passive or active recreation. They can either leave it as strictly open space, or have some kind of recreational element to it.
“There are no immediate plans to do anything,” councilman Matthew Moench said.
The ordinance was unanimously approved to move forward with the purchase.
