BRIDGEWATER, NJ - As per its usual actions, the Bridgewater Township Council approved a resolution allowing for an extension of a grace period for payment of upcoming taxes.

The grace period has been extended from Aug. 1 to Aug. 24.

According to the resolution, state statute allows a governing body to waive interest charges on real estate taxes if payment is made within the 10th calendar day following the date it becomes payable, called the grace period.

But there has been a delay in billing for taxes because of state aid and the certification of a tax rate, which made it impossible to provide taxpayers with 25 days notice of tax payments, as required by state law.

This is the reason for the grace period approval.
