BRIDGEWATER, NJ - After a successful run of it so far, the Bridgewater Township Council approved a resolution that continues an agreement with Somerville for a shared municipal court.
Through the agreement, Somerville Court will be held in Bridgewater, but each municipality maintains separate court functions. Somerville Court reimburses Bridgewater Township for all costs associated with Somerville’s court functions.
According to the resolution, Bridgewater is receiving $201,854.43 for the past year’s shared service.
“I feel the revenue is adequate for the services we are providing,” Township Administrator James Naples said in response to a question from council member Filipe Pedroso.
“The service has gone off seamlessly,” Naples added. “I haven’t heard any complaints on either side. This is an excellent opportunity for us where we can provide a service and take in additional revenue.”
This contract was a renewal for three more years of the shared court.
