BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater Township Council unanimously approved three ordinances to change zoning at the Somerset Corporate Center, paving the way for an application before the planning board for a new hotel and gym.
The concept is to rezone the property with a new zone called the Bridgewater Regional Corporate Center Zone.
The fitness center, a Lifetime Fitness, would be about 120,000 square feet, as opposed to the 241,000-square-foot office park with parking garage that had previously been allowed on that site.
And the land not needed by the fitness center would be conveyed to the township for sports use.
The vision is for a close to 120,000-square-foot building with three stories, including a pool deck. They will provide indoor and outdoor pools, strength and cardio, pilates, a spa and a cafe.
The hotel component would be a franchise from Marriott for a high quality AC Hotel, which is a luxury brand by Marriott.
The plan is for a 150-room AC by Marriott hotel on the property, with an attached restaurant.
Executives can use the AC as a home base, and entertain in an upscale environment, according to representatives from The Briad Group, which would be running the hotel. There is a bar and lounge for meetings, a conference room and at least two eating facilities.
SJP Properties, which owns the Somerset Corporate Center, expects to bring an application to the planning board and begin construction in mid 2017.
