Bridgewater Swish 5th Grade Girls Travel Hoops Win League Championship


BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater Swish fifth grade girls travel basketball team won the 2016-2017 Garden State Basketball League championship with a resounding 37-21 win over Montgomery.  

Bridgewater led most of the game, but used its full court pressure defense to pull away in the fourth quarter.  During a four-minute stretch of that period,  Bridgewater turned a seven-point lead into an 18-point lead, before eventually winning by 16.

Bridgewater reached the final thanks to two late comebacks in their 26-22 overtime win over Readington in the semifinals. Trailing 18-14 with 2:30 to play, Bridgewater scored the last four points of regulation, tying the game on a free throw with 10 seconds remaining.

Then, in the overtime period, Bridgewater trailed 22-19 before scoring the last seven points of the game.

Team members are  Vasi Papanastasiou, Talia Wong, Kaitlyn Choy, Summer Andricsak, Megan Carlin, Courtney Kaiser, Lauren DiGiovanni, Maddie Rumain, Gianna Caparoso, Olivia Papic and Lexi Mason. Coaches are head coach Nick DiGiovanni, and assistant coaches Dana Caparoso and Mike Carlin.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.
