Eight Students Report Minor Injuries in Morning Bus Crash

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A First Student school bus containing 15 students from the Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Merriwood Road Tuesday morning, with the cause believed to be mechanical failure.

According to a release from Bridgewater Township Police, eight students on the bus reported minor, non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset via the responding rescue squads, Green Knoll, Martinsville and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Somerset.

Bus driver Janette Vega, 38, sustained a leg injury.

According to police, the crash occurred around 9:22 a.m. Tuesday as the bus was entering the middle school.

It is believed, the report said, that as the bus was turning onto Merriwood Road from Foothill Road, it lost power and crashed into a tree.

The crash is being investigated by the Bridgewater Police Traffic Safety Unit, and Officer Jason Albanese.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.
