BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Franklin Township woman was arrested on robbery charges from the Bridgewater Commons Mall, according to a release from Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson.
Fantasia Johnson, 40, was charged with second degree robbery, third degree unlawful possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.
According to Robertson, at about 3:46 p.m. May 18, a loss prevention officer in a store in the mall saw Johnson concealing $154 worth of merchandise in her handbag. When she left the store without paying, Robertson said, she was approached by the loss prevention officer and two mall security officers, and escorted back to the store.
Once inside the store, Robertson said, Johnson refused to enter the security office, and she took a bottle of pepper spray from her purse and sprayed the chemical into the officers' eyes.
As she ran from the officers, Robertson said, she sprayed the chemical onto store merchandise. Once outside, the loss prevention officer arrested her after she sprayed him in the face a second time, Robertson said.
Johnson was lodged in the Somerset County Jail, with bail set at $50,000.
