BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The family of missing Bridgewater resident Thomas Andresen has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to bring up his boat that capsized off Sandy Hook on Aug. 26.
According to the campaign website, Andresen's boat capsized and sank, but he has not been found yet. A total of $80,000 to $90,000 is needed to have the boat brought up because it is dangerous to divers, but the family does not have insurance for it.
A total of 73 donations have been made to the fund as of Friday at noon, with a total of $6,954 raised.
According to nj.com, there were reports of a boat in distress in Sandy Hook on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m., and a search lasted much of that evening and Wednesday morning. It is believed Andresen was on the boat alone when the vessel capsized off the coast of Sandy Hook.
A sunken vessel found Wednesday morning off the coast was believed to be Andresen's boat that was reported missing, but state police have not yet been able to confirm if anyone was on the ship when it sank.
On Thursday, the search continued, with marine troopers and divers searching the water for Andresen.
