Hackettstown Woman Killed in Monday Morning Crash on Route 22

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Hackettstown woman was killed early Monday morning in a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 22 East, just west of Mountain Avenue, according to a release from Bridgewater Township Police.

At about 2:44 a.m., the release said, Sara Lee, 50, was driving her 2012 Nissan Sentra west in the eastbound lanes on Route 22. The vehicle was reported traveling the wrong way at 2:43 a.m., and it then struck a 2004 BMW 328i, being driving by Karen Facciponti, 35, of Dunellen.

Lee was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m.

Facciponti was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

According to the release, the left and right lanes of Route 22 East, including the ramp from Route 202/206 South, were closed for about four hours during the investigation.

Responding to the scene were the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, NJ State Department of Transportation, Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad, Green Knoll Fire Depratment and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Paramedics.

The crash is being investigated by the Bridgewater Township Police Depratment Traffic Safety Bureau. Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact Officer Jason Albanese at 908-722-4111, ext. 4158, or the Bridgewater T.I.P.S. line at 877-660-INFO.
